Punjabi Host 3rd Kabaddi World Cup From 15th Dec 2012

3rd Kabaddi World Cup 2012: The third Kabaddi World Cup scheduled from December 15 will be hosted by Punjab. The announcement was made on Thursday by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal after the meeting with officials in the state.
The decision was taken after an extensive meeting that was attended by the Public Relations and Information minister Bikram Singh, Education minister Sikander Singh Malukaand former Hockey Olympian Pargat Singh.
The DeputyCM revealed that the decision to host the third Kabaddi World Cup was taken to promote the sport and enhance its chances of making it an Olympic sport. He stated that a total of 12 teams for men will participate in the sporting event this year. The 12 teams will be further divided into two pools with six teams in each pool.

He revealed that Kenya from the African continent will take part in the event for the very first time. The event is comprised of league-cum-knock out stages wherein top teams from each pool will automatically advance in the semi-final.
Recalling the World Cup last year, he stated that the government will not entertain doping cases and will take serious action against those tested positive. The players, if tested positive, will be banned from the World Cup.
The state government had organized the first World Cup in 2010 with Rs 1 crore as cash prize. In 2011, the second World Cup was also organized and the cash prize was doubled to Rs 2 crore.
